Ibema, Tradbor, Dow and ESPM joined efforts to launch a new package. The PaperPouch. A different and funcional package. The innovation is the result of a careful material combination. The stiffness causes PaperPouch to stand “on its feet” besides the fact of giving it unique appearance and touch for the world of pouches in the national market. Polyethylene, by its part, is responsible for physical integrity and content protection. The possibilities of adding new materials are practically infinite, making it possible to offer the necessary protection for the diverse uses. Rogério Junqueira, manager of technical development for Ibema, highlights the effort applied to achieve the ideal paper. “We had to develop a new paper especially for PaperPouch. The result was awesome, balancing texture, color, and physical features needed for its use. All these without speaking of the FSC certification. This will be the first Pouch in Brazil with FSC certification. The visual aspect of PaperPouch will surprise the consumer no matter what the category is in which he will be competing”. Alan Baumgarten, director of Tadbor, says that “PaperPouch brought countless challenges for the package conformation but our over-10-year experience in the Stand up Pouches market made the difference. Besides introducing PaperPouch at the highest standards of finish, we offer the possibility of adding accessories such as zipper and dosing spouts. We at Tadbor know that the customer needs a complete solution, this is why we offer not only the fore-formed PaperPouch but also practical and low-cost equipments for the automatic filling”. At the plastic segment, Rosana Rosa, manager of development and technical support for Dow assures that “protecting the product is our top priority. The 'plasticity' of polyethylene allied to other materials addable through co extrusion or lamination enable PaperPouch to store dry grains, cereals, grain coffee, animal food, powdered cleaning products and much others”. Caroline Susca, accounts manager, completes the statement: “the possibilities are practically infinite. Structures already developed in partnership with Bazei offer Plug & Play solutions for diverse market needs”. For Fábio Mestriner, coordinator of the Body of Package Studies for ESPM, “this project is a 'little miracle' that was born in our body of studies. Totally different companies that are sometimes competitors among themselves were able to join efforts and to create the unthinkable. This is the path for package innovation: combination of materials with real benefits to the customer”. Fábio also completes: “we are very happy to have the Body of Package Studies catalyzing the development of PaperPouch”. We recognize that sustainability is an important factor at the development of any package. According to Bruno Pereira, manager of sustainability for basic plastics at Dow, “PaperPouch offers a sustainable solution for a large range of uses. Product protection, low generation of post-consumption residues and low use of natural resources are found among the strong points of this feature”. But he also warns: “there is no package that is universally more sustainable than all others; with PaperPouch this rule is not different, each case deserves an accurate analysis on the life cycle as a whole”. The responsible for the FSC-accounts management at Ibema, Fernando Sandri, reinforces the renewable feature of the structure of Paperpouch brought by the presence of cellulosic fibers come from planted forests and for the intensive use of renewable energy sources at the manufacturing of the base paper.
