Preliminary numbers on paper and pulp segment's performance on October show a volume recovery tendency pointing the levels to be similar to 2008 ones. Up to October pulp production counts 11.1 million tons which is a volume 5.2% higher when compared to the same period of the last year. The exportations of the input also recorded an increase of almost 15% compared to the volume exported until October 2008. The recovery for paper branch occurs in a slower way but obtaining important records of downfall reversion throughout the year. In October, paper production increased 3.5% and in-country sales went up 2.7% when compared to the former month. In the year totals, paper production is at 7.7 million tons and, little by little, is getting closer to the last year levels. Despite of the demand reheating index and the good outcomes, the segment's exportation income mounts a fall of 18% in comparison with 2008. This last months' tendency brings a strong impact on the financial outcomes of the segment. Between January and October the business surplus was US$ 2.9 billion, an amount that equals 12.9% of the country's business balance. ____________________________________________________________________
