The Volunteering Day that is internationally celebrated on December 5th since 1985 was marked by a solemn session before the plenary at Curitiba's Town Council on last December 2nd. The municipality legislative branch rendered a homage to Ibema Brazilian Company of Paper giving it the title of Friend of HC (Clinical Hospital) as a volunteer of the Association of the Friends of the Clinical Hospital (AAHC), association founded in 1986 to stir up the community toward the hospital's benefit. The association is one of the most significant in the nonprofit sector of Parana and the hospital is a reference point in Brazil. The councilor Julieta Reis (DEM party) is the author of the homage – along with the Council's President, councilor João Cláudio Derosso (PSDB party) – and she says that Friends of HC (Clinical Hospital) symbolize all volunteer groups that improve service conditions in hospitals and philanthropist and social entities. “Acknowledgment and gratefulness are an incentive to all that undertake their own part and after completing have the feeling of the accomplished duty” said Julieta Reis. On her speech she included a special mentioning to Maria Elisa Paciornick, who is now leaving the directorship of AAHC in which she was since 2005. Reis also greeted the new director, Dinorah Nogara.

Thus she said: “Maria Elisa, who is now leaving the directorship with acknowledged merits but is not leaving volunteering, the new director Dinorah and all cooperators... you can count on our support”. For Maria Elisa Paciornick, who stood at the tribune to speak of volunteering, the solemnity is a simple tribute when compared to the benefit that volunteering offers to the patient. “In midst of a rushed life and bad news that let us down we gathered for a laudable cause, improving the patients' day-by-day life.

Our people are volunteers by offering work, time giving and money donation”, said Paciornick. She also gave information on his term at AAHC direction, considering that the team was efficient and that they accomplished the mission. She also said that during the whole period nearly R$ 100 million were passed to the hospital through the association and remembered friends of HC that passed away this year, referring, among them, to the journalist Francisco Cunha Pereira Filho, who worked at Rede Paranaense de Comunicação (Parana Communication Network).

After delivering “Friends of HC” certificates to 13 homaged volunteers, including companies, people who dedicate their work, make donations in cash or help raising funds to the institution, Teichum Hiramatsu thanked on behalf of the homaged ones. “Volunteering is an act of donation and Brazilian is, by nature, stands by others”, Hiramatsu said while commenting on time, something that is precious. The president of the Superior Council of the Association of the Friends of the HC, Euclides Scalco, spoke of his career in politics that was finished last year and also thanked to homage given by the city councilors. He stated that, yet out of public (politic) life, will keep doing the volunteering what, in his opinion, “is one of the most laudable actions that does not look unto resources for oneself while takes work and love for the ones in need”.

Ibema president, Rui Gerson Brandt, at his turn, highlighted the importance it has for the company to take an active part on issues that involve the society. “This is an opportunity for us to demonstrate that Ibema is not only caring about the company's sustainability but also for the community in which the company acts”, finalized the president.
